Family First Movie Pick

Cinderella Man features big name stars, a famous director and a powerful, inspirational story about a family struggling to endure during the Great Depression. Inspired by the true saga of James J. Braddock who made a living in the boxing ring until injury brought him down. He then had to take manual labor jobs and accept government assistance to support his family. But he subsequently made an electrifying comeback to win the Heavyweight Championship of the World. Pat Buchanan called this movie “one of the most pro-Catholic films Hollywood has produced since the 1940s Bing Crosby-Ingrid Bergman classic, The Bells of St. Mary’s.”

It’s not mentioned in the movie but according to some sources Braddock took inspiration from the Catholic Worker Movement of Dorothy Day and after his comeback he made donations to their cause and also sometimes invited the poor and homeless to have meals with his family.

Caution, Dads. Some scenes may bring a tear to your eye!
